Mark N. Sirangelo most recently was the head of Sierra Nevada Corporation’s Space Systems and Executive Vice President of the Sierra Nevada Corporation. SNC’s Space Systems is one of the country’s top space builders having lead or participated in over 400 space missions, including over 50 planetary missions, and is the owner, designer and builder of the next generation space shuttle, Dream Chaser, which will soon begin operations for NASA to the International Space Station. Mark led its growth from an early stage business to its having a multi-billion backlog, a decade of profitability, a global client base and production facilities nationally. Mr. Sirangelo was formerly the Chairman & CEO of SpaceDev, Inc., prior to its merging with SNC, and has spent his career leading aeronautics, technology and communications companies.
Mr. Sirangelo is a founding member and now Chairman Emeritus of the Commercial Spaceflight Federation, the commercial space sector’s leading trade group. He is the founder and Chairman of eSpace, the Center for Space Entrepreneurship, a nonprofit that supports the start-up and growth of entrepreneurial technology companies. Mark has also been inducted as an Associate Fellow of the The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA).
Mr. Sirangelo has been recognized with numerous corporate and personal awards. These include being inducted into the NASA/Space Foundation’s Technology Hall of Fame, being named Manufacturer Builder of the Year by ColoradoBiz magazine, The Best Place to Work by the Denver Business Journal, the Defense Industry’s Fast Track 50, Deloitte’s Fast Track 500, selected as a finalist in Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Inc. Magazine’s top 200 companies and the World’s Top 10 Innovative Space Companies by Fast Company.
Mr. Sirangelo has served as the Chief Innovation Officer of the State of Colorado and currently is the State’s appointee to the Colorado Energy Research Collaboratory. He is a member of the University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor’s Strategic Advisory Council and serves as the College of Engineering and Applied Science Scholar Entrepreneur in Residence. He is also on the Colorado State University College of Agricultural Sciences AgIndustry Council.
Mr. Sirangelo has, for over 25 years, been working to make the world a safer place for children as a Board member of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), the nation's clearinghouse & comprehensive reporting center for all issues related to the prevention of and recovery from child victimization. NCMEC has resolved over 100,000 missing children cases to date.
Mr. Sirangelo has a multi-faceted personal background including being a long-term licensed pilot and a successful creative artist. He holds Bachelor of Science, MBA and Doctorate degrees and has served his country proudly as a U.S. Army officer.
